
Hostel workers stage protest in Kalaburagi
Members of the Karnataka Rajya Samyukta Vasathi Nilaya Karmikara Sangha affiliated to All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kalaburagi on Wednesday demanding regularization of contract employees working in social welfare, backward classes and in hostels coming under the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS).
In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, sangha district president Raghavendra M.G. and secretary Sharnu Heroor demanded that the State government regularize the services of employees working in hostels of various departments and to provide direct payment of salaries.
They demanded that the unorganized sector workers be paid minimum wages of ₹36,000 per month. Besides, they sought the implementation of labour laws and the extension of provident fund, ESI and gratuity benefits to them.
