Heavy rain lashed various parts of Salem district on Sunday (November 23, 2025) midnight and a holiday was declared for schools in four taluks in the district on Monday (November 24).
On Sunday evening, various parts of the district witnessed heavy downpour. The rain continued to lash till Monday morning in Salem city. Following heavy rainfall in rural areas, a holiday was declared for schools in the Attur, Thalaivasal, Gangavalli, and Pethanaickenpalayam taluks. Meanwhile, schools within Salem Corporation limits functioned.
In the past 24 hours that ended at 6 a.m. on Monday, Salem district received 258.70 mm of rainfall, including 62 mm in Nathakarai, 38 mm in Attur, 33 in Veeraganoor, 25 mm in Sankari, 18 mm each in Vazhapadi, Danishpet, and Gangavalli, 17 mm in Thammampatti, 15 mm in Yethapur, 4.2 mm in Yercaud, 4 mm each in Kariyakovil and Puludikkuttai, 1.4 mm in Edappadi, and 1.1 mm in Salem Collectorate.
