DC have brought in Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib to fill the void left by the injured Mitchell Marsh for the remainder of the IPL season. Naib, making his IPL debut, was acquired for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. Marsh's departure came after he suffered a hamstring injury, forcing him to return to Perth for medical consultation with Cricket Australia's staff.

DC's head coach, Ricky Ponting, confirmed Marsh's absence at an event in Delhi, assuring fans that Marsh's recovery wouldn't jeopardize his role as a potential leader for Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup, slated to commence on June 1.

During his brief stint with DC this season, Marsh contributed 61 runs across three innings, with a high score of 23, and managed just one wicket from eight overs at an economy rate of 12.87. This marks the second consecutive season where DC has seen Marsh sidelined midway through the tournament. Despite Marsh's absence, DC, currently placed sixth in the points table, will face off against formidable opponents like MI, KKR, RR, RCB, and LSG in their remaining matches.
