“We will not take any action in a coercive manner till 16th,” additional solicitor-general Chetan Sharma and standing counsel Ashish Dixit submitted before a bench of Justice Avneesh Jhingan.
The assurance came as the court is hearing an application for a stay on the June 29 notice issued to the club under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1971, or the PP Act. Vijay Khurana, a club member, and the DGC Staff Welfare Association filed the plea.
In the notice, an estate officer had directed the club’s representative to appear on or before July 7 to explain why the eviction proceedings should not continue in accordance with the earlier eviction order. It cited the termination of the club’s lease on May 22 and the government’s exercise of its right of re-entry under the lease deed.
