Five persons, including two women, were killed on the spot in a head-on collision between a car and a combine harvester, which is used in agricultural activities, near Bilebavi Cross in Talikote taluk of Vijayapura district on Friday.
Superintendent of Police, Vijayapura, Laxman Nimbaragi, gave the names of the dead as Ningappa Patil, 55, Shanthavva Shankar Patil, 45, Bhimshi Sankanal, 65, Shashikala Jainapur, 45, and Dilip Patil, 50, all residents of Aliabad in Vijayapura taluk.
The family reportedly had travelled to Agni village in Yadgir district in connection with a marriage proposal and were returning via Talikote when the accident occurred.
