First-level checking of EVMs, VVPATs begins in Madurai

The first-level checking of the electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) to be used for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election in 2026 began in Madurai on Thursday.

Madurai Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar inspected the process in the presence of the representatives of recognised political parties, at the EVM warehouse. Engineers from Bharat Electronics Limited, Bengaluru, which supplies the EVMs and the VVPATs to the Election Commission of India, were present.
