First Kanda Express reaches Delhi with 453 tonnes of onions to ease prices

New Delhi: The first Kanda Express, a dedicated railway rake carrying 453.65 tonnes of onions from Nashik in Maharashtra, arrived in the national capital on Friday as part of the Centre’s efforts to boost supplies and curb rising prices in Delhi-NCR and nearby cities.

Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare said the consignment, transported in 21 wagons, would be sold at a subsidised rate of Rs 35 per kg in Delhi-NCR. Portions of the stock would also be sent to Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Jammu.
