
Constable killed in road accident near Tiruchi
A 31-year-old police constable died after being knocked down by a motorcycle on the Tiruchi-Chennai national highway near Panamangalam on the outskirts of Tiruchi city on Thursday evening.
The police gave the name of the deceased as A. Riyaz Mohamed, 31, who was attached to the Thuvarankurichi police station in Tiruchi district. Police sources said Riyaz Mohamed, a resident of Indira Colony in Manachanallur taluk, was crossing the highway on foot when he was knocked down by the motorcycle.
The body of the constable, who was unmarried, was taken to the Srirangam Government Hospital for autopsy. Motorcycle rider A. Saddam Hussain, 32, of Eechampatti in Manachanallur taluk has been named as the accused. The Kollidam police have registered a case, police sources added.
