Confusion, lack of clarity in list of castes of socio-educational survey, says caste leaders

Leaders of castes who participated in a meeting over socio-educational survey, beginning on September 22, said here on Wednesday that there was confusion in the list of castes prepared by the State government and the list lacked clarity.

Legislative Assembly Speaker and MLA for Mangaluru U.T. Khader presided over the meeting.

President of Bunts Yane Nadavara Mathru Sangha, Mangaluru, Ajith Kumar Rai Malady said the Bunts were also known as Nadavaru. In the list of OBCs, Bunts and Nadavaru have been referred as two different castes and there was no mention of “Bunts Yane Nadavaru” in the list.

“We want the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, which conducts the survey, to allow us to be referred with both ‘Bunts’ and ‘Nadavaru’. The commission has to clarify as I need to inform our community members,” he said.
