Chhattisgarh man charged with sexually assaulting, murdering 6-year-old niece

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on charges of sexual assault and murder of his six-year-old niece in his house and then hiding her body in a neighbour’s car in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district on Sunday (April 7, 2025), the police said.

The accused purportedly told the police that he had committed the crime even as his aunt was performing a Navratri puja in another part of the house. These claims of other family members being unaware of the crime were being verified, a senior police officer said.

A resident of Durg’s Om Nagar, the child’s mother told journalists on Monday that the victim had left home around 10 a.m. to go to her grandmother’s house in the same neighbourhood and had stayed there till 10.30 a.m. Her body was recovered from the neighbour’s car later that night.
