Chandrababu Naidu for barring candidates with less than two children from contesting local body polls
Underscoring the need to encourage population growth in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has said barring candidates with less than two children from contesting local body elections is among the measures being considered for the purpose.
At an informal chat with media persons at his native Naravaripalle village in Tirupati district during Sankranti celebrations recently, he revealed his plans to bring new policies to encourage people to have more children.
“A few decades ago, the government brought in a rule disallowing individuals with more than two children from contesting as a sarpanch, municipal councillor, corporation chairman or a mayor. In the current scenario, there is a need to reverse that norm. We are planning to bring in a law to disqualify candidates with less than two children in the local body elections,” he said.
