Bolivia Military Base Explosion Kills At Least 10, Over 60 Injured in Viacha

At least 10 people have died and dozens have injured after a powerful explosion tore in a military barracks in Viacha, Bolivia on Friday, 4 September. The blast took place around 2.30 PM local time at the area about 30 KM from La Paz. The blast was so powerful that it damaged the local homes.

The officials said the explosion originated in a section where pyrotechnic material belonging to the Defence Ministry was stored.

The explosion occurred at Centro General de Mantenimiento of the RAM-2 "Bolívar" military unit in Viacha. According to initial reports the blast involved stored fireworks or other pyrotechnic material held as part of the Defence Ministry's inventory.
