BAFTA Film Awards 2025 full list of winners: Conclave clinches Best Film award, Anora and The Brutalist win big
At this year’s BAFTA Awards, Payal Kapadia’s critically-acclaimed film All We Imagine As Light lost out to the French film Emilia Perez in the Best Film Not in the English Language category. Even though the lead star Karla Sofia Gascon was slammed for past controversial tweets, which were seen as both Islamophobic and racist, Emilia Perez won the top honor during the awards ceremony that was held in London. Zoe Saldana, who played the film’s second lead, too bagged the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress.
Emilia Perez, which has been directed by Jacques Audiard, revolves around the journey of four extraordinary women in Mexico who are busy turning their dreams into reality. The story focuses on cartel boss Emilia (Gascon), who employs Rita (Saldana), to help her in faking her own death so she can finally live as her real self.
At the Golden Globes this year, Emilia Perez had bagged the award in the Best Motion Picture Non-English Language category by beating out All We Imagine..., The Girl With the Needle, I'm Still Here, The Seed of the Sacred Fig and Vermiglio.
