New Delhi: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed the former elite all-rounder Andrew Flintoff as the head coach of the Men’s youth team, also known as England Lions. Flintoff, who played 79 Tests for England between 1998 and 2009, has been working as a consultant with the senior men’s team in recent months since his near-fatal accident in December.

According to the ECB’s official statement, Flintoff was selected from a pool of candidates for the job. The board said he would “support performance planning, player development reviews with countries, team selection and player appraisals” for the Lions.

“I’m incredibly excited to take on this role with the England Lions,” Flintoff said in a statement. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to work with some of the best up-and-coming talent in the country and to help shape the future of the men’s game. The Lions programme has always been a vital stepping stone for players pushing for international success, and I’m honoured to be part of that journey.”
