Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (August 14, 2025) marked ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’, stating that it was a day to honour the “grit and ability to face unimaginable loss” of the victims and survivors of the violence that followed the partition of India. The ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ was first marked in 2021, after an announcement by Mr. Modi to that effect.

It is also a day to honour their grit...their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh.”
