After Champions Trophy snub, Yashasvi Jaiswal to play Ranji Trophy semifinal
New Delhi: Young India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has joined the Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy semifinal clash against Vidarbha in Nagpur. The opener was part of India’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy but the team management made a couple of changes at the last minute, which ruled out his participation. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy was instead picked in the 15-member squad, while Harshit Rana replaced injured Jasprit Bumrah. Jaiswal is currently named in the list of non-travelling reserves.
Prior to being selected for the Indian team in the three-match ODI series against England, Jaiswal participated in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. The 23-year-old scored 4 and 26 runs in his two innings, but Mumbai ultimately lost the match by five wickets. He opted out of the game against Meghalaya to prepare for the ODI series and the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Jaiswal received his first ODI cap during the opening match against England in Nagpur. However, he did not perform well, managing only 15 runs. In contrast, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer had strong performances, each scoring half-centuries. As a result, the team management decided to exclude Jaiswal from the second ODI, allowing for the return of Virat Kohli, who had missed the initial game due to an injury.
