48 Hours On, Sambhal Still In Shock: Country-Made Bullets Caused Deaths, Say Police
The four men killed during the violence over a mosque survey in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal did not die from police firing, sources claimed, citing the autopsy report. The findings revealed that the men succumbed to bullet wounds inflicted by country-made guns, allegedly used by the protesters, sources added.
A massive crowd clashed with the police, pelting stones, snatching weapons from officers, and allegedly opening fire as they opposed a court-ordered survey of a masjid. In response, the police fired tear gas shells and used non-lethal pellet guns. Four men, reportedly part of the protesters, lost their lives in the violence.
It was initially alleged that the victims were shot dead by the police. Opposition parties, including Samajwadi Party leaders, claimed that the police directly fired at the protesters. However, senior police officials refuted these allegations.
