11 killed in lightning in West Bengal's Malda
Malda: In a shocking turn of events, at least 11 people were killed after being struck by lightning in different places across the Malda district of West Bengal on Thursday afternoon, a government official said. Keeping in view the loss, the district administration has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased, he said.
“So far, 11 people have been killed due to lightning strikes. A number of injured people are being treated at various hospitals. Some of the injured are in critical condition,” the official told news agency PTI.
Families mourn after 12 people reportedly died due to sudden rain and thunder earlier today. “Following the guidelines of MCC and after discussing with the concerned authorities, the administration will provide Rs 2 lakh each as compensation and Rs 2000 for last rites,” said DM Malda Nitin Singhania to ANI.
