People who have contracted Covid-19 could be more likely to develop hypertension, even if they did not have an earlier record of it, a recent study suggested.

In addition, people with Covid-19 infection and no history of high blood pressure were significantly more likely to develop persistent high blood pressure compared to people with the influenza virus.

According to the study, people over age 40 who had Covid-19, males and Black men, or those with preexisting conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary artery disease or chronic kidney disease, had an elevated risk of developing high blood pressure as well.
