Novak Djokovic Stunned In Australian Open Semis By Italy's Jannik Sinner

Djokovic was recently stunned by Italy's Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semifinal. The 10-time champion of the year's opening grand slam lost for the first time in the semifinal at the Rod Laver Arena, having gone on to win the previous 10 times and then even going on to win the trophy. However, this he faltered against 22-year-old Sinner who went on to win his first Grand Slam trophy after beating Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling. Being two sets down at one stage and having only lost one set on the way to his final, the Italian youngster showed great resilience to come back from behind to finish as the winner. He became the first Italian to win Australian Open.

As far as Djokovic is concerned, the Serbian tennis star's Australian Open 2024 campaign came to an end in the semifinal where Sinner got the better of him in a four-set contest winning 6-1, 6-2, 7-6, 6-3 in a match that lasted over 3 hours and 20 minutes.

"In a way [my level today] did surprise me, because I thought, it won't be that bad in the first two sets. But on the other hand, I didn't feel really myself on the court during this tournament. One can say semi-finals is a great result, but I always expect the highest of myself, and it wasn't meant to be today," Djokovic said after his defeat to Sinner in the semis as quoted by ATP Tour.
