SunRisers Hyderabad are set to change their captain for the third time in three seasons. IndiaToday.in has learnt that SRH are going to hand the mantle of captaincy to Australia's ODI World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins, replacing Aiden Markram, who led the side in 2023.
Markram, a two-time SA20 winning captain with Sunrisers Eastern Cape will be stepping down from his duties ahead of IPL 2024. Sources in the know told IndiaToday.in that SRH splurged Rs 20.50 crore on Cummins keeping his captaincy attributes in mind.
Pat Cummins' Australia were in riveting form in 2023. The side beat India in the World Test Championship Final and then beat the Rohit Sharma side once again in the ODI World Cup Final in the same year.
Australia's ODI World Cup journey was remarkable as the team came back from 2 back to back defeats at the start of the tournament and then won the crown by defeating favourites India at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Aiden Markram's Record
The South Africa batting all-rounder did not have a good time as SRH captain in the 2023 season. Due to constant chopping and changing in the line-ups, SRH finished at the bottom of the table with only 4 wins from 14 games. Markram, however, has done exceedingly well in the SA20 league where he guided the Eastern Cape to back to back titles.
SRH in IPL Auction
SunRisers Hyderabad were quite busy in the IPL auction ahead of the 2024 season. The side bought Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Wanindu Hasranga among other players. While SRH shelled a massive amount of money for Cummins, Hasranga was considered a steal in the IPL auction at just Rs 1.50 crore.
