Asian Games 2023, Archery: Jyothi Vennam wins gold in women's compound, Aditi Swami claims bronze

Jyothi Vennam won her third gold medal of the Asian Games 2023 as she won the women's compound final on Saturday. Aditi Swami made it a perfect start to the day as she won the bronze medal in the same event.

India started off Day 14 of the Asian Games in fine fashion as they secured two medals in archery with Jyothi Vennam winning the gold medal in women's compound and Aditi Swami claiming bronze in the same event on Saturday, October 7.

This was Jyothi's third gold medal of Asian Games 2023, having been on the top step of the podium in the women's compound and mixed compound team events earlier.

Jyothi delivered a near perfect performance against Korea's Chaewon So after having initially hit a nine in her first attempt. It was eight at first, but the Indian archer was given a point after consideration. After conceding End 1 to the Korean archer, Jyothi showed no signs of pressure as all her remaining attempts were perfect tens.

So felt the pressure and, in End two, her second attempt was an eight, as Jyothi took the lead in the contest. The Indian archer would see off the contest and win it with as score of 149-145 and make it 97 medals for India at the Asian Games 2023 with her win in the final.

Earlier in the day, Aditi claimed the bronze medal in the women's compound event with a win over Indonesia's Zilizati Fadhly. The Indian archer had the perfect start to the contest hitting two tens to take End 1 29-27 in her favour.

Aditi would continue her form to take the first three Ends against her Indonesian counterpart to take a sizeable lead as the final two ones ended with both archers scoring 30 and 29 respectively. Aditi won the contest with a score of 146-140.

Jyothi and Aditi's wins on Saturday took the Indian archery contingent's medal count at the Asian Games 2023 to seven. India have guaranteed themselves two more medals as Abhishek Verma and Pravin Deotale will face-off in the men's compound final.
