Sonam Kapoor is known for calling a spade a spade. When it comes to Bollywood, she doesn’t try to be diplomatic, but often makes clear and striking statements. In a recent interview, the actress opened up about the pay disparity in Bollywood. Sonam also revealed that she has lost out on roles for demanding equal pay. However, she admitted that she can afford to do that, owing to her privilege.

SONAM KAPOOR CALLS PAY GAP IN BOLLYWOOD RIDICULOUS

Sonam Kapoor is now living in London with husband Anand Ahuja. The actress is also enjoying her freedom there, which includes household chores. But, Sonam is aware of her privilege, not just at home, but at work too.

While talking to Vogue, Sonam addressed the pay gap issue in the film industry. She said that she has lost out on work because she demanded equal pay. However, she is okay with it as she can afford to do that.

She said, “The pay gap is ridiculous. It’s not changed at all. I can stand up to it, but then I don’t get those roles, and I’m ok with that. And frankly, I can afford to do that. I realised over the past two or three years that I have no right to judge anybody. I’m very privileged, so making difficult choices isn’t really ****ing difficult. I’d better be making those choices.”

Sonam is the daughter of Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor. She has two younger siblings - Rhea Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor. She married businessman Anand Ahuja on May 8, 2018 in a grand Punjabi wedding ceremony, in Mumbai. The two have made London their new home.

Sonam Kapoor was last seen in a cameo in director Vikramaditya Motwane’s AK vs AK. The Netflix film starred Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap in lead roles. Sonam will be seen next in Shome Makhija’s Blind. The crime thriller is the Hindi remake of the Korean film of the same name.
