Brought back from Canada after 108 years, an idol of goddess Annapurna was installed at Kashi Vishwanath temple in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Monday. The ceremony was attended by UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

Brought back from Canada after 108 years, an idol of goddess Annapurna was installed at Kashi Vishwanath temple in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Monday. The ceremony was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

In addition, the idols of five other deities, which were removed when the temple was reconstructed, were also installed.

The idol of goddess Annapurna was taken to the temple in a silver palanquin. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shouldered the palanquin and led the procession that started from the Kushmanda temple in Durgakund on Monday morning.

The idol was installed in the north-east corner of the temple while priests and devotees chanted hymns. Scores of devotees thronged the temple town of Varanasi on the occasion of the idol's arrival.

Later, addressing a gathering at the Rudraksh Convention Centre in Varanasi, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “The credit for bringing back the idol of goddess Annapurna from a museum in Canada 108 years after it went missing from Kashi goes entirely to the honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

He added, "The PM has actually facilitated the return of 156 such idols and other artefacts that had been smuggled out of India in the past."

YOGI ADITYANATH'S VISIT TO VARANASI

Yogi Adityanath arrived in Varanasi on a two-day visit on Sunday night. He inspected the cleaning and repair of the Shahi drain on the Lahurabir-Maidagin road late on Sunday night and ordered that the work be completed as soon as possible.

He also took stock of the construction of the Kashi Vishwanath temple corridor.
