Andhra minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy passed away on Monday, February 21 due to a severe heart attack. He was taken to Apollo hospital in Hyderabad, where he was declared dead.

Andhra Pradesh minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy passed away on Monday, February 21 after suffering a severe heart attack. He was admitted to Apollo hospital in Hyderabad, where he passed away.

He was the son of industrialist and politician former Nellore MP M Rajamohan Reddy. Goutham Reddy was born on November 2, 1971. He completed his Master’s degree from the University of Manchester.

He became an MLA for the first time in 2014. The 50-year-old YSRCP leader represented Atmakur constituency in Nellore district. He served as the Minister for Industries, Commerce and Information Technology.

He won his first general election in 2019 from Atmakur. The minister had returned from Dubai on Sunday where he was leading a government delegation at Dubai Expo 2022.

Telangana minister KT Rama Rao expressed his condolences on the passing away of his colleague.

He took to Twitter and said, "Deeply saddened & shocked beyond belief to learn about the sudden demise of dear friend @MekapatiGoutham Garu. My heartfelt condolences to the family & friends in this hour of grief. Gone too soon brother. Pray that you rest in peace".

TWO DAYS OF STATE MOURNING

The government has issued an order that they will observe two days of state mourning on February 21 and 22. The national flag will be flown at half-mast on all buildings under the control of the state government and there will be no public entertainment during the state mourning days, said the order. The funeral events will be conducted with police honours.

Sithara Entertainments issued a statement condoling the sudden demise of minister Goutham Reddy. They added that, as a mark of respect, the pre-release event of the movie Bheemla Nayak will not be happening today.
