Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent 100 pairs of jute footwear for those working at Kashi Vishwanath Dham, in his Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi.

According to government sources, during his visit to Varanasi to inaugurate the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, PM Modi learnt that most people working at the temple performed their duty bare-footed.

This is because it's forbidden to wear footwear made of leather or rubber on the temple premises. Nobody is exempt from this decree, including priests, people performing seva, security guards, sanitation workers and others.

The prime minister immediately had 100 pairs of jute footwear procured and sent them over to Kashi Vishwanath Dham, so that those performing their duties don’t have to remain bare-footed in the cold weather.

“Needless to say, the people working at Kashi Vishwanath Dham were very happy. This is yet another example of PM’s attention to minute details and his concern for the poor,” the source said.

During his two-day visit to Varanasi last month, the prime minister had showered flower petals on workers who constructed the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, and later had lunch with them.
