The Union Education Ministry’s Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025 was inaugurated on Monday (October 13, 2025) by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with about 1 crore students from across 3 lakh schools in the country participating in what the government has billed as “India’s largest synchronised innovation hackathon for school students”.

Last month, the Centre had announced the Buildathon event, inviting students from Classes VI to XII to come up with ideas and product prototypes that will help India achieve its goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The two-hour “live innovation event” on Monday saw teams of 3-5 students across the over 3-lakh participating schools gather to brainstorm ideas or begin building prototypes.

Inaugurating the Buildathon, Mr. Pradhan said, “Confident that the innovative ideas germinated from here will pave the way for creating new global models and finding solutions to pressing domestic and global challenges.” The Minister interacted with participating students at the PM SHRI Government High School in Odisha’s Khorda and visited the Delhi Public School and a Kendriya Vidyalaya in the National Capital, a government statement said.
