PM Modi In Sweden Highlights: Bilateral Summit, Round Table On Agenda

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Stockholm, the first bilateral visit by an Indian premier to the Nordic nation in 30 years. Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven received PM Modi at the airport. The Prime Minister is on the first leg of his five-day foreign tour which will also take him to the UK where he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. PM Modi and his Swedish counterpart also travelled together in the same vehicle from the airport to the hotel, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

PM Holds Roundtable With Top Swedish CEOs, Asks Them To Invest In India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today invited top Swedish firms to invest in India and said stronger bilateral business relations would augur well for the people of the two countries.

PM Modi, who held talks with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven earlier in the day, was welcomed by children in traditional Indian costume on his arrival at the Stockholm City Hall in Sweden's capital Stockholm to attend the Roundtable Meeting with Swedish CEOs.

PM Modi said that trade and investment issues will be discussed with "important CEOs"

"Trade and Investment issues will be discussed with important CEOs," said PM Modi. "Sweden has always been India's partner in the defence sector. There will be new opportunities in the defence sector. We have decided to strengthen relations as far as cyber security is concerned," he added.

"Sweden and India are a perfect match," says PM Modi

"This is my first visit to Sweden," said PM Modi, saying that India's relationship with Sweden was "a win-win partnership". He said the India-Sweden relationship was "a perfect match".

In his speech, PM Modi has said that an "intensified political and business interaction" will take place between India and Sweden. He said Swedish inventions can contribute to 'Make In India'.

PM Modi said he and Mr Lofven will interact with business leaders of both countries and chart a future roadmap of co-operation in sectors like trade, science and technology, clean energy and smart cities.

India and Sweden are set to co-host the first ever India-Nordic Summit where Prime Ministers of the other four Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway, will also be present.

PM Modi is on the first leg of his five-day foreign tour.
