'Shall I call you Appa now, my Thalaivare': MK Stalin pens moving letter for father Karunanidhi
M Karunanidhi, one of India’s tallest leaders, died at the age of 94 in Chennai on Tuesday. The DMK patriarch breathed his last at 6:10 pm at Kauvery Hospital.
As India mourned the icon of Dravidian politics, several leaders across party lines paid rich tributes to Kalaignar.
However, it was MK Stalin’s moving letter that showed the beautiful bond between father and the son.
"Most of the time I used to call you as Thalaivare (Leader) in my life. So, shall I call you now as Appa (father) for once Thalaivare?"
‘My dear leader you always leave after informing me. Why you didn't inform me this time?,’ Stalin wrote.
‘Leader please once again call us "my dear brothers". That will keep us active to fight for our race and language for another century,’ he further said.
Earlier, the DMK Working President had appealed to cadres to remain calm and to follow discipline in "this hour of grief."
Stalin urged the cadres, who have been thronging the Kauvery Hospital ever since Karunanidhi was admitted there on July 28, to disperse in a peaceful manner as the doctors had treated his father to the best of their ability for nearly two years.
"I appeal to party office bearers to ensure that the cadres disperse in a peaceful manner", he said. Stalin asked the cadres not to indulge in any activity that would bring a bad name to the deceased leader and not to damage public property.
He alleged that anti-social elements would try to take advantage of the present situation and said party workers should identify such people and hand them over to police. Hailing DMK's 'military like discipline', Stalin said it was the duty of the cadres to offer full support to the policemen on duty.
Karunanidhi was one of the most charismatic leaders of Tamil Nadu whose public life spanned over seven decades.
He is survived by two wives and six children, including DMK working president and heir apparent M K Stalin and daughter Kanimozhi, a Rajya Sabha MP. His first wife had predeceased him.
