Padmavati row: Rajput Karni Sena activists go on a violent rampage; vandalise a theatre in Kota - watch video

A mall in Kota was vandalised by members of Karni Sena, just because the theatre there was playing the trailer of the film.

The controversy around Padmavati, starring Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, is only heating up with every passing day. A mall in Kota was vandalised by members of Karni Sena, just because the theatre there was playing the trailer of the film. A video posted by ANI shows that a group of men, sporting saffron headgears and bandanas pelting stones and smashing glasses. Branding themselves as protectors of culture, the men shouted slogans against the film and filmmaker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. According to reports, 8 people have been arrested relating to the incident. This won't be an isolated incident when Karni Sena members have resorted to taking law in their own hands. A few days after the release of the trailer of Padmavati, vandalisers destroyed a huge rangoli being made at a mall in Surat. After Deepika took to Twitter to rant against the act, five people were arrested by the police. On November 12, 15 activists of a Rajput organisation were detained in Mumbai after protest. “In a democracy everyone has right to protest. If they protest democratically, no one will have an objection. If they take law in their hands, then they will be punishable under law. I have been told that 8 people have been arrested,” said Rajasthan's Home minister Gulab Chand Kataria when informed about the latest incident. Protestors, all over the country, have a problem with the film allegedly portraying Rani Padmini, played by Deepika Padukone, in a 'bad light' and 'distorting facts and history.' Makers of the film have agreed to screen Padmavati for them once the film is certified by the CBFC.
Padmavati is slated to release on December 1.
