GUWAHATI: Suspected Ulfa (I) rebels exploded four grenades at different locations in upper
Assam region as the country celebrated
Republic Day. There are no reports of any casualty so far.
Three explosions took place in Dibrugarh and one in Charaideo district, police said. In Dibrugarh district, an explosion took place at Graham Bazar and another beside a gurudwara on A T Road, both under Dibrugarh police station.
An explosion rocked the oil town of
Duliajan whose details are still awaited, while another was reported from Teok Ghat under
Sonari police station of Charaideo district. Senior officials have rushed to the explosion sites.
Police suspect the grenades were lobbed by anti-talk Ulfa (I) operatives. The Myanmar-based rebel group, which is the only active militant outfit in the state now, has called a dawn-to-dusk general strike in the state.
