A young woman intruder from Pakistan was shot at and injured by Border Security Force (BSF) troopers in the Dera Baba Nanak sector of Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Wednesday morning, reported IANS.

The incident took place when the woman tried to move into Indian territory along the international border between India and Pakistan near the Bangar border outpost (BoP) of BSF.

Speaking to The Quint, BSF sources said that the woman’s husband handed her over to Pak Rangers deployed across the international border who physically abused her for two days.

They further claimed that the woman ran away from them and landed in the Indian territory.

She was later shifted to the government hospital in Dera Baba Nanak town, 275 km from the border. “She is being questioned,” a police official said.

Speaking to ANI, Dr Rakesh Sharma of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where the woman is admitted, said that the patient was in shock.

He added that she has sustained injuries in her rectum and vagina. The cause of the injuries is yet to be ascertained, the doctor said.

“The BSF got in touch with us in the morning. We brought her to hospital at noon," said Amritsar Police to ANI.

BSF officials said she was challenged by troopers to stop and go back but she kept walking. The troopers fired at her as per security protocol, reported IANS.

The injured woman was found inside Indian territory and rushed to the hospital by the BSF.
