Four general coaches and the engine of the Sabarmati-Agra superfast train derailed near Madar railway station in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district early on March 18. There were no casualties or serious injuries in the incident. The rescue teams from the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police rushed to the spot.

The incident occurred at 1:00 a.m., when the passengers heard a loud noise and felt a jerk. The rail traffic on the track was disrupted, leading to the cancellation of six trains and rerouting of two. A few passengers, who sustained minor injuries, were given the first aid on the spot.

North-Western Railway sources said the restoration work was started promptly and a support desk was established at the Ajmer railway station.

The Divisional Railway Manager’s office in Ajmer announced the appointment of a three-member committee to probe into the cause of the accident. DRM Rajiv Dhankhar said there was no signal or technical failure, while the traffic on two routes had been started. “The committee will consider all the facts to arrive at its conclusion,” he said.

Ajmer MP Bhagirath Choudhary visited the site of the mishap to take stock of the situation and interacted with the railway officials and rescue teams. The passengers were taken to the Ajmer railway station from where they travelled to their destinations in another train.
