A day after Shivakumara Swami of Siddaganga Mutt was laid to rest in Tumakuru, the issue of who attended the funeral and who did not became grist for political upmanship.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara said the State government’s repeated requests to the Centre for conferring the Bharat Ratna on the seer had also gone in vain. He said: “PM Modi attends celebrity weddings, meets movie stars but skips the funeral of our NaDedāDuva devaru, who dedicated his life to help the poor & the marginalised.”

The Deputy Chief Minister also took a dig at the PM over the Philip Kotler Award, which had generated much controversy a few days ago when the Opposition parties questioned the authenticity of the award.

Countering Mr. Parameshwara, BJP MP Pratap Simha tweeted: “Respected @DrParameshwara Sir, where were your SoniaG n RahulG? Did they turn up? Can u pls answer?!”
