Reckless driving by mini bus drivers here claimed the lives of a woman and her daughter on Wednesday.
Police said Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation driver Nagakrishnamani, 46, of Mela Sankarankuzhi, his wife Sudha, 42, and daughter Sripadmapriya, 16, were returning home on a two-wheeler on Wednesday afternoon after completing formalities pertaining to admission of the girl in a private school.
When they were crossing Anna Bus Stand, those who were inside a parked car suddenly opened the door. When Nagakrishnamani applied brakes to avoid collision, a speeding mini bus coming from behind hit the two-wheeler violently in which all the three sustained grievous injuries.
Though the public rushed the trio to a private hospital, Sudha and Sripadmapriya succumbed to their injuries while Nagakrishnamani is battling for life with serious injuries.
Kottar Traffic Investigation Wing police have registered a case.
