Actor-politician Manchu Mohan Babu has announced his decision to join the YSR Congress Party, claiming that the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-headed party is capable of alleviating the problems faced by people.

Mr. Mohan Babu, who was with the TDP since its inception and also one-time Rajya Sabha member from the party, called on Mr. Jagan at his Lotus Pond residence here on Tuesday. He was accompanied by his son and actor Manchu Manoj. Mr. Mohan Babu exuded confidence that the YSRCP would sweep the elections in Andhra Pradesh.

The actor-politician has been criticising the TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu over the latter’s failure to implement fee reimbursement scheme. He tried to take out a rally against the AP government’s failure in Chittoor on March 3, but was prevented by the police from doing so in view of the model code of conduct.

Speaking to reporters later, he said he did not join the YSR Congress for any posts or power and he would campaign for the victory of the YSR Congress candidates in the coming elections. A long-time associate of the TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao, Mr. Mohan Babu said though he was invited by different parties including the TDP and the BJP, he preferred to join the YSR Congress.
