The Delhi Commission for Women on Saturday wrote to the police seeking registration of an FIR against Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Khattar and BJP MP Vijay Goel for their alleged misogynistic remarks against Kashmiri women.

In the letter, it said: “Such statements by those in high constitutional offices reinforce the notions of a patriarchal society and severely undermine the value and voice of women and girls.”
The DCW said the notice was issued to the force after the commission took suo-motu cognisance of reports pertaining to Mr. Goel using pictures of “Kashmiri girls” on hoardings near his residence and statements made by Mr. Khattar.
“The commission strongly recommends immediate registration of FIR against the said office-bearers,” the letter read while stating that such “actions may end up inciting violence in the already sensitive area of Kashmir.”
DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “At a time when the entire country is standing behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking steps against Article 370, some men are trying to sabotage his efforts. Through their statements, they are encouraging others to treat women as assets. This needs to stop immediately.”
Responding to the letter, Mr. Goel took to Twitter and said Ms. Maliwal should have “clean thoughts.”
“Fearing the public of Delhi, they supported the revocation of Article 370 but the discomfort of Mr. Kejriwal’s team is clearly visible. These statements symbolise the disappointment palpable among anti-nationals [sic],” read Mr. Goel’s tweet.
However, Ms. Maliwal in a tweet responded to Mr. Goel and said “ nationalism runs in my blood and my constant work for my country is testimony...”
