Philanthropist and the world's 22nd richest person, MacKenzie Scott, has remarried after her divorce with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Scott’s husband Dan Jewett works as a science teacher in Seattle. The announcement of the marriage was done by Dan with his statement to the Giving Pledge, a webpage for the charitable causes.
In a statement on the Giving Pledge page, he said, “In a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know—and joining her in a commitment to pass on enormous financial wealth to serve others. I look forward to the growth and learning I have ahead as a part of this undertaking with MacKenzie."
“It is strange to be writing a letter indicating I plan to give away the majority of my wealth during my lifetime, as I have never sought to gather the kind of wealth required to feel like saying such a thing would have particular meaning, “he further added.
MacKenzie, who is worth worth $53 billion, while signing with the Giving Pledge in 2019— promised to give away half her fortune to charity. In her statement at the time she said, “We each come by the gifts we have to offer by an infinite series of influences and lucky breaks we can never fully understand. In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share. My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”
As reported in Forbes, the couple met at the Lakeside School, a private school that Scott’s children attend. Dan worked as the chemistry teacher here. Jeff and MacKenzie ended their 25-year-long marriage in 2019. The settlement allowed MacKenzie to be one of the richest persons on the globe. However, she pledged to donate half of the fortune to the needy. Now, Dan also has joined her in the pledge. Scott’s updated Amazon biography now says that she lives with her four children in Seattle along with her husband, Dan.
