Union Min Pashupati Paras Likely To Resign From Modi Cabinet After BJP Leaves Him Out Of NDA Seat-Sharing

Lok Sabha Election 2024: Excluded from NDA's seat-sharing in Bihar, Union Minister Pashupati Paras now faces an uncertain future and is likely to tender his resignation from the Modi Cabinet

Union Minister Pashupati Paras is likely to tender his resignation from the Modi Cabinet on Tuesday and has called for a press conference on Wednesday to outline his future course of action. With the seat-sharing of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar finalised, Paras now faces an uncertain future, with speculations about his next move.

The NDA leaders, while announcing the seat-sharing arrangement for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, allocated 17 constituencies to the BJP, 16 to the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], and five to Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), thereby rejecting the claims of the LJP faction led by Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras. Additionally, two smaller parties were allotted one seat each.

Additionally, Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) will contest 5 seats. Furthermore, one seat each has been allocated to Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Samata Party and Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha.

However, the absence of any seat allocation for Paras within the NDA has reportedly left him discontented.

He had previously indicated his displeasure with the perceived injustice in seat allocation within the NDA. Recently, he stated, "I have immense respect for Prime Minister Modi. We have been steadfastly supporting the NDA since 2014. However, we have been treated unfairly. Not a single seat has been allocated to us in the Lok Sabha elections. We demanded a reconsideration of our inclusion in the BJP's candidate list. We had options available, and I will make a decision after reviewing the BJP's list."

Pashupati Paras Vs Chirag Paswan In Hajipur Constituency?

Pashupati Paras is currently contemplating contesting from the Hajipur constituency in Bihar. According to sources, he was offered the governor post, which he declined. Meanwhile, following the seat-sharing arrangement, Chirag Paswan has declared his candidacy from the Hajipur constituency. Historically, the Hajipur seat has been associated with Ram Vilas Paswan, whose brother, Pashupati Paras, is currently a Member of Parliament from the same constituency.

Chirag Paswan's LJP (Ram Vilas) Celebrates Seat Allotment In NDA

Chirag Paswan experienced an early celebration of Holi as his party workers joyously applied dry colour to his face following the announcement that his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) would be contesting five Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. The decision came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disregarded the assertions of a rival faction led by his uncle and Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras.

Expressing gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders, Chirag attributed the success to the relentless efforts of his party workers, acknowledging that their hard work had been duly recognised, news agency PTI reported.

He mentioned that he was mocked for having one MP and no MLAs in his faction, highlighting the unwavering support of his followers, who continued to attend his rallies and placed their trust in him.

Reflecting on his late father Ram Vilas Paswan's words, Chirag recalled his father's belief that time, not people, holds the ultimate power. He announced his candidacy from the Hajipur constituency, presently represented by his estranged uncle Paras.

When questioned about the possibility of reconciliation with his uncle, Chirag deferred the decision to senior members of the family. He acknowledged his father's younger brother as the most senior member of their family, according to PTI.

Chirag Paswan has rallied his supporters, drawing large crowds at his Bihar rallies, reaffirming his position as the political successor to his late father, Ram Vilas Paswan.
