The decomposed body of a 40-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in the forest area on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus here yesterday, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Ram Pravesh Singh. It is suspected that he committed suicide around six-seven days ago

His body was found by a security guard who was checking the area. He sensed something was amiss as he noticed foul smell on the Nelsoin Mandela road in the area of the university covered by greenery.

Singh is found to be a resident of Nazafgarh.

Police recovered a mobile phone, an aadhaar card, a voter idenntity card, a driving license, Rs. 90 in cash along with a badge.

The officer added that the body had decomposed in a way that it could not be identified and it was too early to believe the documents too.

"There is a possibility that these documents were kept only to mislead the police," the officer said, adding that an investigation is underway.
