R Ashwin's time with KXIP came to an end with the Delhi Capitals officially announcing a trade deal in which the off-spinner went to the franchise based in the national capital while left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith went the other way.

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who joined Delhi Capitals in a trade deal, thanked his former franchise Kings XI Punjab for their support and also said he will look back fondly at the two years spent with his previous IPL team.

Delhi Capitals announced a successful trade ahead of the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League, by acquiring veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, and releasing left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith to Kings XI Punjab.

Under Ashwin's leadership, KXIP played well in the first half of the past two seasons before losing steam in the second half. They finished seventh in 2018 and sixth in 2019.

Previously in IPL, Ashwin has represented Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants and Kings XI Punjab. Ashwin managed to win IPL twice with CSK in 2010 and 2011.

"It has been a wonderful journey with Kings XI Punjab," Ashwin was quoted as saying by the Kings XI Punjab website.

"I will always look back fondly at the two years I spent with the Kings and will miss all my teammates. I am looking ahead to new challenges. I would also like to thank the fans for their endless support over the two years, it was incredible to see them come out and support their team," he added.

Anil Kumble, who was recently named KXIP's Director of Cricket and head coach, said that "it's now time to look towards the next step".

"We thank him for his contribution to the team over the last two years and wish him well in his future endeavors. We will look at strengthening the squad at the auction to ensure that we have a well-balanced team as we enter the new IPL season," Kumble said.
