Director Jeethu Joseph, in a recent interaction with the media, confirmed that he has written a magnificent climax for Drishyam 3. Confirming the sequel, he added that it will take at least three years for the film to take shape.

Before we get excited for Drishyam 3, let us take a look at how Drishyam and Drishyam 2 became everyone's favourites and eventually, blockbusters.

WHY DRISHYAM BECAME A HIT?

In 2013, Malayalam film Drishyam starring Mohanlal, Meena, Esther Anil and Ansiba Hassan released in theatres. Director Jeethu Joseph claims that he sees Drishyam as a mystery family drama and not as a full-fledged thriller. However, all Drishyam did was make the audience gasp whenever a twist was revealed.

The success of any thriller is to keep the suspense alive till the last frame and Drishyam did exactly that. A simple story of a father going to any length to protect his family was what made everyone relate to it.

Nowhere did the film take Gerogekutty's (Mohanlal) side as he buries the dead body of Varun, who gets accidentally killed by his daughter Anju (Ansiba Hassan). He escapes the law because of his clever plans, but not a day goes by for him where he doesn't regret his mistake.

He realises that Varun's parents suffer from missing their child, but he cannot let go of his family over righteousness. This constant battle and the edge-of-seat twists and turns made Drishyam a solid thriller that wowed everyone. As reported earlier, Drishyam was remade in several Indian languages, including Ajay Devgn and Tabu's Hindi version, and also in Sinhalese and Chinese.

WHAT MADE DRISHYAM 2 A HUGE HIT?

Eight years after Drishyam's release, director Jeethu Joseph came up with the sequel. In a way, it is commendable of him to do the film only after he gets a meaty storyline and not just cash in on the popularity of Drishyam.

It is safe to say that not many excepted Drishyam 2 to be as good, considering sequels in the recent past have been quite underwhelming. When it came to the film's promotions, Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal were clear in their motive. They said that Drishyam 2 is first a family-drama and then a thriller.

This probably worked in the film's favour. As Jeethu said, Drishyam 2 concentrated on the psychological effects of hiding a murder. Meena's character Rani lives in constant fear while Anju (Ansiba) develops a psychological problem that turns into epilepsy. Georgekutty cannot let his guard down as the law has a way of catching up to him. How these dynamics affect their relationship forms the story of the film.

These sequences then culminate into a power-packed climax which once again makes us go wow. Jeethu Joseph understands that he needs to end his films on a high note so that it stays in the minds of people for a long time. And Drishyam and Drishyam 2 did that 100 per cent.

Now, let us wait for Drishyam 3 to see what Georgekutty and Jeethu Joseph have in store for us.
