Irrfan's (L) son Babil Khan (C) comes out in support of Anurag Kashyap after #MeToo allegations against the filmmaker surfaced.

Late actor Irrfan’s son, Babil Khan, came out in support of Anurag Kashyap after #MeToo allegations against the filmmaker surfaced. Actress Payal Ghosh, in an India Today exclusive, claimed that Anurag Kashyap had misbehaved with her.

Sharing a note on Instagram, Babil wrote that the #MeToo movement should not be misused as it would ultimately diminish the movement’s credibility and the women who actually need its support will be left in the dark.

The note read, “It’s a shame that an invaluable movement like the #metoo is misused in such a malignant manner against a person that has actually inspired equality in an excruciatingly patriarchal industry. We now live in this strange age where it is easier to create a 'truth’; and not manifest the truth. I pray that we evolve.

“The concern is that the metastasis of baseless accusations through the #metoo movement would ultimately diminish its credibility and women that genuinely need its support would be left in the dark, it is painful (sic).”

Babil captioned the post saying that he knows what he is writing and is ready to take full responsibility for his words, “Chin up, Anurag sir. I know you all are gonna hate me for this but I’ve got to stand up when something feels wrong. A lot of people in the comments are asking ‘What if the girl is right?’ I am trusting my judgement, I will take responsibility for my words if I’m wrong (sic).”

Soon after Babil’s post, trolls began attacking him in the comments section. While some users asked Babil to ‘stop misusing his father’s name’, others wrote that late actor Irrfan would be ‘ashamed’ to see him take a stand for Anurag Kashyap.

An Instagram user wrote, "Today your father, the great actor Irfan will be ashamed of u. without knowing the facts, brushing aside a woman's allegations of outraging modesty. Were u there to see whether he did what all #payalghosh has said. If u do not know the truth then better be quiet. Thats why women find it difficult to speak up against this henious crime. Who all supporting Anurag without knowing the truth must ask for CBI enquiry so that he gets a chance to prove himself innocent than giving him a certificate of innocence without trial (sic).”

To him, Babil replied, "I think my father would be proud of me standing straight with all this hate, I wish you could have actually known him as a person but well he’s gone, and as much as I wish I could bring him back and forget about this verified Instagram account I would, but I can’t. I have a responsibility towards his fans which I will pursue for the rest of my life, you can hate me but I hope I spread some love in you through my work (sic)."

There were some netizens who supported Babil Khan and said that he shouldn’t worry about the haters.

On Tuesday, Babil Khan shared a set of throwback photos of Irrfan. In the caption, he replied to all the haters and those who had been telling him that his father would be ‘ashamed’ of him.

Babil Khan captioned the post, “U know what, I have felt a sense of liberation from your hate because I realised, you really don’t have anything to do but hate and form a quick judgemental opinion about an actual human being. So really man, I have truly lost respect for people that claim they know my father, or hahahaha know my father better than me like “oh your father would be so ashamed of you"

"Boi or girl shut you mouth, me and baba were the bestest friends don’t try to teach me what my father would have done, don’t jump on a band wagon just cause you can without knowing his true beliefs. If you’re a Irrfan Khan fan, come prove it me, show me his fascinations with Tarkovsky and Bergmann and then we shall probably start a conversation of how much you think you know my father. He was beyond you my friend (sic).”
