Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak released on January 10.

Chhapaak director Meghna Gulzar has finally spoken about Deepika Padukone's JNU visit and says that what a person does in their personal life must be viewed separately from the professional. Meghna also said that we need to divert the 'lens’ back to the reason why Chhapaak was made.

The film is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

In an interview with PTI, Meghna said, "We have to be able to separate between the personal and professional. What somebody does in their personal life and what they have done as a professional in a film needs to be looked at separately".

She further added, "While they are trying to separate the lens of personal and professional, if one can slightly divert the lens back to the reason why we made the film and what we are trying to talk about and bring to light... I think it is important".

Deepika raised a lot of eyebrows when she visited the JNU campus last week to express her solidarity with the students after the university saw an attack by several masked goons on the night of January 5. The actress was seen dressed in black attire as she stood in silence with the students.

Pictures of her visit went viral on social media.

While there were many who supported the actress on her JNU visit, others condemned her for the same. BJP’s Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga took to Twitter and called for a boycott of her films. He wrote, "RT if you will boycott movies of Deepika Padukone for her support to #TukdeTukdeGang and Afzal Gang."
