Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, the Congress on Thursday claimed that there was a rise in import of goods from China from Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 70,000 crore and asked Narendra Modi if he was promoting Made in China.

"When we (Congress) left the Congress, Rs 50,000 crore worth goods were being imported from China. The figure now stands at Rs 70,000 crore," Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said during a press conference on Thursday.

Surjewala asked, "Is the PM promoting made in China or make in India?"

At the press conference, the Congress also accused Union minister Smriti Irani of misusing the MPLAD fund while citing the CAG report.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi says only the half truth. Reality is that Modi and his dearest and nearest eat only in crores," said party leader Shakti Singh Gohil.

The Congress alleged that Smriti Irani flouted guidelines and pressed for a private company to work for the village she had adopted.

"As per law, you can't give more than Rs 50 lakh for work, but around Rs 5cr work was handed to this firm," the leader said.

He added that the collector probed and found that no work was done on the ground.

The Congress demanded the Prime Minister to sack Smriti Irani from the cabinet.
