Who was Meera Sanyal?

Banker-turned-politician Meera Sanyal passed away after battling cancer for a brief period. Sanyal joined AAP in 2013. Before venturing into activism and politics, Sanyal had been at the helm of Royal Bank of Scotland serving as the country chief executive.

In her 30-year-old banking career before plunging into politics, Sanyal, who was born in Kochi, had also served as the head of corporate finance and chief operating officer for ABN Amro for Asia.

She contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Mumbai south constituency for AAP but lost.

Actor and AAP activist Gul Panag also expressed grief and wrote on Twitter: "Shattered to hear about @meerasanyal's demise. A woman who personified grace, carried her success lightly and always had a patient ear for anyone who reached out to her. An exemplary leader who inspired all who came across her. May God give her family strength to bear this."
