Ahead of the Assembly elections, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday kick-started "Mumbai walks with BJP" ('Mumbai Chali BJP Sobat') campaign at Marine Drive on Sunday morning with his south Mumbai candidates.

The chief minister was accompanied by BJP's Malabar Hill candidate Mangal Prabhat Lodha and Colaba candidate Rahul Narvekar along with scores of party workers.

The aim of the campaign is to garner voters' support for the BJP in the poll-bound state.

"A CM should always be in touch with the local residents. Residence groups in Colaba are supporting BJP. The chief minister has been approachable to us in the last five years," said Ramesh Daswani, a Colaba resident.

Similar events were organised in other parts of Mumbai--BJP MP from North Mumbai Gopal Shetty was at Poisar Gymkhana, MP Poonam Mahajan at Chembur and MP Manoj Kotak in Mulund.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is seeking re-election from Nagpur South West constituency. He is up against former BJP MLA and now Congress candidate Ashish Deshmukh.

The voting for the 288-member Assembly will be held on October 21 in a single phase. The counting of votes will take place on October 24.
