The Union Home Ministry has told the Lok Sabha that terror incidents have declined in Jammu and Kashmir since the region was stripped of its special status on August 5.

G Kishen Reddy, Minister of State for Home Affairs, said 88 such incidents had taken place between August 5 and November 27, down from 106 between April 12 and August 4.

He was responding to a question by BJP MP Rakesh Singh.

"On the other hand there has been an increase in the number of infiltration attempts from across the border," Reddy said in a written reply.

"During the 88-day period from August 5 till October 31, there have been 84 such attempts as against 53 such attempts from May 9 till August 4, 2019. Correspondingly, estimated net infiltration has increased from 32 to 59 during the above period," he said.

G Kishen Reddy said security agencies continued to receive inputs about the intention of terrorist outfits supported and sponsored from across the border, to indulge in terror attacks and breach security in Jammu and Kashmir.

Based on these inputs and a past history of cross border terrorism, all necessary steps are pro-actively undertaken to flush out terrorists, Reddy said.

As many as 157 terrorists have been killed so far in 2019, he said.
