Six people were severely injured after a grenade blast rocked Guwahati, Assam, on Wednesday.

The blast took place near Guwahati Central Mall on Zoo road in the city at around 7.50 pm.

The police have launched an investigation into the grenade blast. The area has been cordoned off.

The police are present at the spot and the injured persons were referred to Guwahati Medical College Hospital.

Deepak Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, said, "A grenade blast took place at 8pm in which six people are injured, investigation is underway."

Banned ULFA-I has claimed responsibility of the blast.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered the DGP to take action against the those behind the blast.
