First coronavirus case reported in Northeast, Manipur woman tests positive after UK travel

Manipur has reported the first coronavirus case in Northeast. A 23-year-old woman had recently returned from the UK and has now tested positive for coronavirus.

First novel coronavirus case has been detected in Manipur, make it the first case in Northeast India, which had till date managed to remain untouched by the virus.

The 23-year-old woman had returned home from UK and is currently undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) hospital in Imphal.

The patient hails from Thangmeiband, Imphal West.

On Monday, Manipur government had ordered complete lockdown of the state till March 31 as a precautionary measure to stop the spread of coronavirus. Essential services have been exempted from the purview of the lockdown.

The government has set up isolation wards at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and JNIMS.

The government has asked people to abide by home quarantine norms and not hide any signs and symptoms of the new coronavirus.
